Moscow – CMS Russia has appointed Dr Thomas Heidemann as head of the German Initiative in Russia, thereby expanding the range of services provided by the firm for companies wishing to invest in Russia’s growing market.

Partner and corporate law expert Dr Thomas Heidemann has been working for CMS Hasche Sigle in Moscow and Düsseldorf since 2008. He has been heavily involved in the Russian market since 1996, with an established reputation in German/Russian commercial law. His key specialist areas include international transactions and investments, alongside corporate law.

The German Initiative team offers German companies full service legal advice in their own language. Its expertise ranges from the planning stage of investment projects to implementing and managing transactions in the Russian market.

The German Initiative consists of five partners who are fully acquainted with both legal systems, German and Russian, and both cultures. In total, an international team of some 90 lawyers and tax experts advises European companies in Russia as well as Russian investors who invest in Europe. CMS specialises in delivering interdisciplinary expertise across multiple jurisdictions from a single source.

CMS Russia has been providing advice locally in Moscow since 1992 and is now one of the largest international law firms in the country. The international team of German, Russian, English and French lawyers and tax advisers based in the Russian capital offers clients wide-ranging expertise in specific subjects and industries, combined with in-depth specialisation and one-stop advice on all commercial law matters.

In 2009, the CMS offices of CMS Hasche Sigle, CMS Cameron McKenna and CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre merged to form CMS Russia. The German Initiative now represents a further expansion of the team’s activities.
