David Cranfield is an English qualified solicitor and a partner in CMS. David heads the Corporate group at CMS, Russia and is based in Moscow.
He specialises in cross-border company acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, private equity and corporate finance. His current practice focuses on Russia and the CIS and he principally advises US and European multinationals and institutions.
Recent experience in Russia includes acting for Ilim Timber Group, a leading Russian timber producer, on a cross-border acquisition of Klausner group entities in Europe; acting for Eureko on its successful bid for and acquisition of Oranta; acting for a Central European bank on a major equity and debt restructuring; advising Russian and European investment funds on a dual acquisition and subscription for a minority stake in a Russian bank; a US private equity fund on a buy-in to a Russian logistics operation, and a large number of foreign investments into Russian entities in the form of joint ventures through off shore holding structures.
David was top ranked among the best lawyers in Russia in M&A in Vedomosti’s “Best Lawyers” rankings 2010 and 2011 and is frequently cited in the legal directories. Chambers notes he has a “reassuring management manner” and “excellent knowledge of how to execute a deal successfully”.
